Midnight Sun Mountian Guides is a small company specialising in unique ski and mountaineering experiences in Lyngen and Lofoten. We know where the best skiing mountains are to be found and can guide you safely to the summit and back. We also offer glacier and avalanche courses. Our guides have over 20 years experience from these mountains.
John Riise
John is a qualified IFMGA-guide. He has practised skiing and climbing in the mountain since the late sixties! His climbing and guiding activities has made him visit the Alps, the Dolomites, the Pyrenees, Jotunheimen, Lyngen and Lofoten both summer and winter. For several years he has been an instructor in summer and winter skills at the Norwegian Military Academy. During the period 1989 - 2002 John Riise was publisher and editor of the norwegian mountaineering magazine Norsk Klatring.
Espen Nordahl
Espen has spent most of his sparetime since childhood in the mountains. He moved to Tromsø in 1982 and has since then explored the mountains in the area.
He is a keen telemarker and ski-mountaineer and has guided many trips for the Norwegian mountaineering association. He is also a qualified glacier instructor and regularly instructs glacier courses and avalanche awareness courses in Lyngen. Espen has skied and climbed in Tromsø, Lyngen and Lofoten and has also organised and taken part in ski-mountaineering expeditions to the Alps, East-Greenland, Turkey, Morocco and Canadian Rockies. He has also worked as a trekking-guide in Spitsbergen and is an author of many articles from his mountain adventures.
Svein Mortensen
Svein has been a keen mountaineer since the beginning of the 90s. He spends most of his spare time telemarking in the moutains around Tromsø and Lyngen. He has also spent 4 years living and working on Svalbard where he was also a member of the Red Cross team for glacier rescue. He is a qualified glacier instructor under the Norwegian Glacier instructor standard.
Torben Rognmo
Torben has long experience of mountains and glaciers, both summer and winter in Lyngen, Troms, and not least on Svalbard where he has spent many years as general manager for mountain equipment shop Arctica. This makes him our equipment specialist. He was one of the founders of Longyearbyen Red Cross, and put in several years as head of their rescue group.
