Skiing by boat is a concept which has evolved over the past few years and is becoming ever more popular as a unique way to experience the Lyngen Alps for ski mountaineering. The Italian guide Luca Casparini was the first to offer such guided tours in Lyngen. Midnight Sun Mountain Guides with over 20 years of experience skiing in Lyngen offer week long guided tours using a small boat as base.

We have over 50 ascents of Jiekkevarre and 20 years experience from the mountain. We have climbed most of the possible ascent and descent routes on this mountain..

Our ski touring, or ski mountaineering adventures are a cheaper and more flexible alternative to ski by boat. They can however, offer equally rewarding trips to seldom visited mountains in the Arctic of Northern Norway. Our local guides choose mountains suitable for your party and select routes with the best snow conditions.

For all mountaineers who climb or ski steep snow slopes in the winter time it is important to be able to travel safely and assess the stability of the snow conditions to reduce the risk of being avalanched. The easiest way to acquire this knowledge is to take an avalanche course.

Our introductory glacier courses are held in Steindalen in the Lyngen Alps. The valley is easily accessible and situated between majestic mountain summits and is the perfect place to become acquianted with Lyngen and enjoy a weekend of glacial experiences.
